Physical activity is bodily movement of any type. It may include recreational, fitness and sport activities such as running, jumping rope, playing cricket, soccer, lifting weights, as well as daily activities such as walking to the store, taking the stairs or raking the leaves. Physical education produces important health benefits. During our physical activities, we stimulate participants to be active at an intensity that increases their heart rate and produces heavier than normal breathing.

VIIE recommends school-age children at least 20 minutes of physical activity per day while avoiding prolonged periods of inactivity. Ideally every child should be active several hours a day. We stimulate children to be active during their school day by attending physical classes, walking or biking to school, and participating in recreational sports and plays before, during, and after school. Parents and grandparents are urged to get active with their children. Teachers should stimulate them to be active in the classroom and during recess.
